Philp Ivey is a professional Poker player who was born in the US on February 1, 1997. Over his career, Ivey has achieved so many honors which includes an astonishing 11 World Series of Poker championships and 1 World Poker Tour title.
He is considered by many as the best poker player in the world because of all he’s achieved throughout his career as a poker sensation. Throughout his career, Phil has won a staggering amount of money in live poker tournaments – over $50 million
That’s not all Though, he’s also made some more millions in high stakes cash games, These made his fans including fellow poker players consider him as the greatest poker player to grace the game. One unique characteristic of Phil is his calm and composed personality when playing the game, even when the odds seem to be against the American, he’s always cool and calculative.
Ivey has faced some really difficult legal issues in the past. A lot of casinos have accused him of “edge sorting” during high-stakes baccarat games, which of course had led to legal proceedings that lasted six years. Fortunately for Ivey, all legal matters against him were resolved in July 2020. Irrespective of these challenges, Ivey seems not to be bothered, he remains one of the most respected and successful poker players in the world.

When he was asked about his win, Ivey expressed his satisfaction and motivation, stating, “It always feels good to win … I’m motivated. If I can play, I will.”
Early Life
Phil Ivey was born on February 1, 1976, in California, To his parents Phil and Pamela Snr. but he grew up in New Jersey. He learned to play cards at a very tender age from his grandfather at age 8 and it didn’t take so long for him to quickly become very good at it. His grandfather was impressed with how fast he learned and how he came up with his own ways to win.
As a kid, Phil was very competitive and liked to win. He played sports like basketball and football, but poker was his favorite game.
As Phil got older, he practiced and worked hard to get even better at poker. In high school, he played with his friends and even had to snuck into casinos in Atlantic City using a fake ID. Although he didn’t win a lot of money then, he was determined to keep pushing, so he kept playing. People started calling him “No Home Jerome” because he spent so much time at the tables.
When Phil turned 21, he was allowed to finally play poker legally and use his real name. He moved to Atlantic City so as to focus on playing and getting better.
Phil’s parents were worried that he was spending too much time playing poker, but he was making money, and Phil’s family eventually supported his decision to become a professional poker player.

Phil Ivey will go on to win first place in the Aussie Millions Poker Championship two years in a row, 2014 and 2015. In 2014, Phil was so tremendous he won $3.5 million against a whopping 30 players,he wasn’t meant to stop there either and in 2015, he won $1.7 million against another 25 players, it was obvious that Phil was in the league of his own, the ease at which he wins is just so unattainable by an average player, he was respected amongst fellow players.
Phil has also appeared on TV poker shows like “Poker After Dark” and “High Stakes Poker”, where he won money and played against other top players.
When he’s not playing in any tournaments, Phil plays high-stakes poker at the Bellagio Casino’s Bobby’s Room, where he competes against other top players in “The Big Game”. He’s met and played with many poker legends like Johnny Chan, Doyle Brunson, and Daniel Negreanu.
Relationship Life
By the time Phil Ivey became a serious poker player, he already fell in love with his childhood friend Luciaetta and they would go on to get married. Throughout their time in marriage, when you look from the outside, it’s obvious their marriage seemed strong, an outsider will hardly notice any cracks, but they were actually having problems and eventually they couple got divorced in 2009.
As part of their divorce agreement, Luciaetta was supposed to receive $180,000 each month from Phil’s poker earnings. However, when the poker site Full Tilt Poker went bankrupt, Phil’s earnings stopped and Luciaetta wanted and tried to renegotiate their agreement so as to get more money; however The court denied her request because Phil had already paid off many of her debts she owed, including credit card debt and other expenses that was totaling a whopping over $15 million.
Life Outside Poker
When he’s not playing Poker, He’s also up to something good and transformational, Phil Ivey and his mom, Pamela, started a charity called “The Budding Ivey Foundation” to honor Phil’s grandfather, Bud When he was alive, Bud helped underprivileged kids by creating programs to improve their lives.
Phil and mom also continued his grandfather’s work through this foundation, they made sure they invested time and money to make a much needed difference. Phil also created a website, Ivey League, he uses this website to teach people about poker strategy and help them improve their skills. The website has different levels, like a college, and it also comes with free and paid plans. Phil wants to make sure he shares his knowledge with others and also help them think like professional poker players.
